Dissolvable heart stent could replace permanent implants
NCT ID NCT06919562
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new type of heart stent that dissolves over time, unlike permanent metal stents. The trial will enroll 117 people with stable coronary artery disease to see if the new stent, placed with special imaging guidance, works safely and effectively. The goal is to reduce long-term problems like inflammation and make future heart surgeries easier.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
MeRes100 thin-strut bioresorbable scaffold
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a safer way to open blocked heart arteries that dissolves over time, potentially reducing long-term complications from permanent stents.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study (117 people) testing a new device and technique. The scaffold may still cause blood clots or fail to perform as well as current standard stents.
