New study aims to predict immunotherapy response in lung cancer patients before surgery
NCT ID NCT05965557
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study is looking for genetic clues that might tell doctors whether immunotherapy will work well before lung cancer surgery. Researchers will collect blood and tumor samples from 100 people with stage II-IIIB non-small cell lung cancer. They will test for two types of genetic markers: homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA). The goal is to see if these markers can predict how well the cancer responds to treatment and whether it stays away for two years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors predict which lung cancer patients will benefit from immunotherapy before surgery, leading to more personalized treatment.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage biomarker study, not a treatment trial. The findings may not lead to immediate changes in care, and the genetic markers being studied may not prove reliable in larger groups.
