Could a single pill replace three for cholesterol?
NCT ID NCT07235189
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a single pill containing three cholesterol-lowering drugs (bempedoic acid, ezetimibe, and atorvastatin) works the same as taking them separately. 58 healthy adults participated in a crossover trial where they received both forms. The goal was to see if the combination pill is absorbed similarly, which could simplify treatment and improve adherence.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bempedoic acid, ezetimibe, and atorvastatin
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simpler, single-pill option for lowering cholesterol, making it easier for patients to stick with their treatment.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial in healthy volunteers, not patients. It only checks if the combination pill is absorbed similarly, not whether it improves health outcomes or is safe long-term.
