Scientists grow replacement penile tissue in lab for men with severe injuries

NCT ID NCT03463239

Summary

This early-stage study aims to test the safety of a new approach to repair severe penile damage. Doctors will take a small sample of a patient's own penile cells, grow them in a lab on a donor tissue scaffold, and then implant this engineered tissue to repair injuries. The study will enroll 10 men with damage from trauma, infection, or inflammation who haven't been helped by standard treatments.
