First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looked at whether placing a temporary plastic tube (stent) in the bile duct after removing all gallstones helps prevent new stones from forming before gallbladder removal surgery. 200 adults with both gallbladder and bile duct stones took part. Half got the stent, half did not. The main goal was to see if the stent reduced stone return within 3 months.
