Gut clues: could bile acids explain higher c. diff risk in kids with colitis?

NCT ID NCT06228352

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study looks at whether changes in bile acids (digestive fluids) in children with ulcerative colitis make them more likely to get a serious gut infection called C. difficile. Researchers will compare bile acid and gut bacteria patterns in 80 children: those with active colitis (with or without C. diff), those in remission, and healthy kids. The goal is to understand why colitis raises infection risk, not to test a treatment.
