Gut bugs and bile: new study targets infection risk in kids with colitis

NCT ID NCT06228352

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study aims to understand why children with ulcerative colitis (UC) are more likely to get C. difficile infections. Researchers will compare bile acid profiles and gut bacteria in 80 children: those with active UC and C. diff, those with active UC alone, those in remission, and healthy controls. The goal is to find links between gut imbalances and infection risk, which could lead to better prevention strategies.
