New dressing aims to prevent painful bedsores in hospital patients

NCT ID NCT05619003

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested the safety of a special silicone dressing placed on the lower back of hospital patients at risk for pressure injuries (bedsores). 67 adults took part, and the dressing was used as part of a standard prevention plan for up to 7 days. The main goal was to see if the dressing caused any side effects or device problems.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Biatain Silicone Sacral dressing (a silicone foam dressing applied to the lower back)

What this could lead to

If successful, this dressing could become a standard, safe tool to prevent painful pressure injuries in hospitalized patients.

What could go wrong

This is a small, single-arm safety study with no comparison group. It only looked at short-term safety (up to 7 days), not whether the dressing actually prevents injuries better than standard care.
