Drug combo for lung disease gets safety check in healthy volunteers

NCT ID NCT07173738

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This completed Phase 1 study looked at how two drugs, BIA 5-1058 and furosemide, affect each other when taken together. 44 healthy adults received each drug alone and then together, under fasting conditions. The goal was to measure drug levels and safety, not to treat any disease. This information will help guide future studies for pulmonary arterial hypertension.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

BIA 5-1058 and furosemide

What this could lead to

If successful, this study will show how these two drugs interact, helping design safer combination treatments for pulmonary arterial hypertension.

What could go wrong

This is an early Phase 1 study in healthy people, not patients. It only measures drug levels and safety, not whether the combination actually helps treat the disease.
