Heart study aims to cut unnecessary pacemaker implants by half

NCT ID NCT04225520

First seen Apr 08, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looks at 500 people with heart failure to see if using an ultrasound test (echocardiography) to measure how well the heart's chambers work together can better decide who needs a cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) device. Currently, 30-40% of patients don't improve after getting a CRT. The goal is to see if this test can reduce unnecessary implants while still helping the right people, comparing it to standard guidelines.
