New eye test could replace dozens of biopsies for esophagus check

NCT ID NCT05229783

Summary

This study tested if a new, high-tech visual scan during an endoscopy could work as well as the standard method for monitoring Barrett's Esophagus, a condition that can lead to cancer. The standard method involves taking many small tissue samples (biopsies), which is time-consuming and can miss spots. Researchers compared the new scan, which uses special light to see tissue details, against the old biopsy method in 110 patients to see which one better found dangerous pre-cancerous changes.
