Race against time: study pinpoints critical window to save Babies' livers

NCT ID NCT07328204

Summary

This study aimed to determine the best age for performing a major liver surgery called Kasai portoenterostomy in infants with biliary atresia, a serious liver disease. Researchers followed 200 babies from several hospitals in China, grouping them by their age at surgery (from under 1 month to 4 months old). They tracked the children for two years to see which surgical timing gave babies the best chance of keeping their own liver healthy and avoiding a transplant.
