Ancient herb tested as new weapon against heart stent clots

NCT ID NCT03378934

Summary

This study is testing if adding a natural compound called berberine to standard blood-thinning medications (aspirin and clopidogrel) can better prevent dangerous blood clots in patients who have had a heart stent placed. It will involve about 64 patients who are 8 to 40 weeks past their stent procedure. Researchers will measure how well berberine, taken at increasing doses over 12 weeks, affects the blood's clotting ability compared to standard medication alone.
