Electromagnetic mattress tested for athlete recovery – does it work?

NCT ID NCT07299669

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a mattress that gives off low-level electromagnetic pulses (BEMER therapy) can improve sleep, readiness to play, and injury recovery in elite female football players. Sixty athletes used either the active mattress or a sham (fake) mattress for 8 minutes each morning and evening over 10 weeks. Researchers measured sleep time, sleep quality, and daily self-reported fatigue, muscle soreness, stress, and mood.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

BEMER electromagnetic-energy-regulation therapy (pulsed electromagnetic field device)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a drug-free way for athletes to improve sleep and recovery, potentially reducing injury risk.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial in a specific group (elite female footballers), so results may not apply to others. The effect may be small or due to placebo.
