New heart transplant drug combo aims to spare kidneys

Summary

This study tests whether a drug called belatacept can safely replace the standard anti-rejection drug tacrolimus over time in heart transplant patients. The goal is to prevent organ rejection while reducing kidney damage often caused by tacrolimus. About 66 adults receiving their first heart transplant will take part, and researchers will monitor their health for 18 months.
