Dream control: a new behavioral approach to tame narcolepsy nightmares

NCT ID NCT05709873

First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests two behavioral therapies—imagery rehearsal therapy (IRT) and targeted dream control (TDC)—to reduce nightmares in adults with narcolepsy. Participants attend therapy sessions, keep a daily sleep log, and complete questionnaires. Some Chicago-area participants also undergo a daytime nap sleep study. The goal is to see if these therapies can lower nightmare frequency and severity.

imagery rehearsal therapy and targeted dream control

What this could lead to

If effective, these therapies could offer a drug-free way to reduce nightmare frequency and severity in people with narcolepsy.
