Laugh your way to better eyes? trial tests fun fixes for dry eye
NCT ID NCT07524725
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two behavioral interventions—Baduanjin (a gentle 10-15 minute exercise) or laughter exercises using a smartphone app—plus artificial tears, against artificial tears alone for treating dry eye disease. About 540 adults aged 18-45 with moderate dry eye will participate for 12 weeks, with follow-ups up to 48 weeks. The main goal is to see if these activities improve eye discomfort and vision-related quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Baduanjin (a gentle exercise routine) and laughter exercise (facial movements guided by a smartphone app), plus artificial tears
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer simple, drug-free ways to ease dry eye symptoms.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial with no phase, and the benefits may be small or not last long. The exercises require regular commitment, which may be hard for some people to maintain.
