New program aims to keep aging veterans independent
NCT ID NCT05493241
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is developing and testing a behavioral activation program for older veterans at risk of losing the ability to do daily tasks on their own. The program, delivered via video telehealth, helps veterans engage in activities that matter to them. The study will first adapt the program with feedback from veterans and staff, then test it in a small group, and finally compare it to usual care in 48 veterans to see if it is feasible and acceptable.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Behavioral Activation for Independence in Older Veterans (ACTIVaTE) program
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this program could offer a simple, home-based way to help older veterans stay independent longer, reducing the need for hospital or nursing home care.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early feasibility study (58 participants) testing whether the program is practical and liked by veterans. It is not designed to prove the program works, so results may not show clear benefits.
