Pedal away hospital weakness: bedside bike study aims to keep patients moving

NCT ID NCT07281638

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether a portable, low-resistance bike that clamps to a hospital bed can help patients stay active during their stay. Hospitalized people often lose muscle and face problems like weakness, delirium, and blood clots from too much bed rest. The study will enroll 80 adults expected to stay at least 3 days, who will use the bedside bike for at least 15 minutes daily alongside usual care. Researchers will track how often patients use the device, its safety, and whether it helps shorten hospital stays and improve recovery.
