Mind-Controlled tech could help kids with severe disabilities at home
NCT ID NCT07073378
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) can be used at home by children aged 5-18 with severe physical disabilities, such as cerebral palsy or brain injury. Families receive a BCI kit and participate in 12 virtual coaching sessions over 3-6 months. The goal is to see if the technology helps children achieve personal goals, like communicating or playing, and whether it reaches children from diverse backgrounds.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that brain-computer interfaces are practical for home use, helping children with severe disabilities gain more independence and participate in daily activities.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 18 participants and no control group. It focuses on feasibility and goal achievement, not a medical treatment. Results may not apply to all children with disabilities.
