Old TB vaccine tapped in global race to shield frontline workers from coronavirus

NCT ID NCT04362124

Summary

This study aimed to see if giving healthcare workers the BCG vaccine, which is normally used to prevent tuberculosis, could help their immune systems fight off COVID-19 more effectively and prevent severe illness. The plan was to give 1,000 healthy doctors and nurses in Colombia either the BCG shot or a placebo and follow them for a year. However, the trial was withdrawn before any participants were enrolled.
