Sound waves open brain barrier to attack deadly tumors
NCT ID NCT04998864
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This early study tested whether a device using focused ultrasound can safely open the blood-brain barrier in 3 patients with aggressive brain cancer (glioblastoma) while they received standard chemotherapy. The goal was to see if this approach could allow more chemo to reach the tumor. The study focused on safety and whether the barrier could be opened repeatedly. It was not designed to measure if the treatment improved survival or cured the disease.
