New gel could heal diabetic foot ulcers faster
NCT ID NCT06383013
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This Phase 2 study tests a topical gel called BB-101 for treating diabetic lower leg and foot ulcers. About 96 adults with diabetes will be randomly assigned to receive either the gel or a placebo, and neither they nor their doctors will know which they get. The main goal is to see how much the wound shrinks over time, with secondary checks on complete healing and safety.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- BB-101 (a topical biological gel)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide a new treatment to help heal diabetic foot ulcers faster and reduce the risk of amputation.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early Phase 2 trial with only 96 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The gel might not heal ulcers better than standard care, and side effects are still being studied.
