Can a single radiation type spare prostate cancer patients from extra side effects?
NCT ID NCT07751159
First seen Aug 07, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This trial tests two ways of delivering radiation for men with high-risk prostate cancer that has not spread. One approach uses a standard combination of brachytherapy (a temporary radioactive implant) plus SBRT (precise external beams). The other uses SBRT alone. The goal is to see whether skipping the brachytherapy boost reduces short-term urinary symptoms while still controlling the cancer. The study tracks patient-reported urinary function at three months to compare the two strategies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- radiation therapy (SBRT alone vs. HDR brachytherapy boost plus SBRT)
- What this could lead to
- If SBRT alone works as well as the combined approach, it could offer a simpler radiation option with fewer urinary side effects for men with high-risk prostate cancer.
- What could go wrong
- This is a phase 2 trial with 126 participants, so results are preliminary. SBRT alone might not control the cancer as effectively as the standard combination, and side effects can still occur.
