Can we spot leukemia before it starts? scientists hunt for clues in baby cord blood

NCT ID NCT05014165

First seen Apr 14, 2026 · Last updated May 10, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study examines stored umbilical cord blood from 300 children who later developed leukemia. Researchers will look for the same genetic mutations found in the children's leukemia cells within their newborn cord blood. The goal is to understand how and when these cancer-causing changes first appear, which could lead to a screening test to detect pre-leukemia early in life.
