Pacemaker lead position may unlock better blood pressure control

NCT ID NCT02909868

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether the position of a pacemaker lead in the right ventricle can improve how well the BackBeat Moderato system controls blood pressure. Five people with hypertension who already have a pacemaker will have their heart pressures and volumes measured with the therapy on and off. The goal is to understand which lead location works best, which could lead to more effective blood pressure management.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

BackBeat Moderato pacemaker with Programmable Hypertension Control (PHC) therapy

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help refine pacemaker placement to better control blood pressure in people with hypertension.

What could go wrong

This is a very small sub-study with only 5 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It is designed to gather data, not to prove a treatment works.
