Summary

This observational study looks at whether the size of two lower-back muscles, the psoas and multifidus, measured on MRI scans taken before surgery, is related to how well patients recover after surgery for a herniated disc. The study will include 100 adults aged 18 to 75 scheduled for elective disc surgery. Participants will receive standard care and complete a recovery questionnaire before surgery and at several points afterward. The goal is to see if these muscle measurements are linked to better or worse recovery, which could help personalize care in the future.
