First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This early-phase trial is testing a new drug called AZD8421, alone or with other cancer drugs, in people with advanced ER+ breast cancer or high-grade ovarian cancer. The study aims to find safe doses and see if the drug can shrink tumors. About 564 women aged 18 and older will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
AZD8421 (a CDK2 inhibitor) alone or in combination with camizestrant, ribociclib, palbociclib, or abemaciclib
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a new treatment option for people with advanced ER+ breast cancer or high-grade ovarian cancer that has stopped responding to standard therapies.
What could go wrong
This is a very early (Phase 1/2a) trial, so the drug may not work or may cause unexpected side effects. It is also only for specific cancer types and may not benefit everyone.
