New pill targets blood cancers in early human trial
NCT ID NCT07064122
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-phase trial is testing a new drug called AZD2962, which blocks a protein called IRAK4 involved in cancer growth. The study includes about 72 people with certain blood cancers (myelodysplastic syndromes or chronic myelomonocytic leukemia) that have not responded to prior treatments. Researchers are giving the drug as a daily pill, either alone or with other medicines, to check its safety, find the right dose, and see if it helps shrink the cancer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
AZD2962 (an IRAK4 inhibitor taken as a pill)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a new treatment option for certain blood cancers that have stopped responding to standard therapies.
What could go wrong
This is a very early (Phase 1/2) and small trial (72 people). The drug may not work or may cause side effects. It is too soon to know if it will be safe or effective.
