Eye test may predict ICU delirium
NCT ID NCT05248035
First seen Jan 12, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a fast, automatic eye test can predict delirium (sudden confusion) in intensive care patients who need a breathing machine. Delirium is common and serious in the ICU, but current detection methods are slow and require special training. Researchers will measure pupil responses in 213 adults on day 3 of ventilation and see if those results can forecast delirium over the next two weeks. The goal is to find a simpler, faster way to identify at-risk patients.
