Phone app boosts heart patient understanding at discharge
NCT ID NCT07399379
First seen Feb 11, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study tested whether an augmented reality (AR) tool, accessed via a QR code on a smartphone, could help heart patients better understand their discharge instructions. Over 300 adults hospitalized for heart attack, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, or pacemaker implantation were split into two groups: one got standard discharge paperwork, the other got the same paperwork plus the AR app. Researchers then tracked how well patients followed their treatment plans, their satisfaction with care, and whether they had serious heart events like readmission or stroke in the following months.
