Heart shield? statin may guard against chemo damage

NCT ID NCT07668076

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether atorvastatin, a cholesterol-lowering drug, can protect the heart in breast cancer patients receiving doxorubicin-based chemotherapy. 44 women with newly diagnosed breast cancer took atorvastatin daily for 3 months alongside their chemo. Researchers measured heart stress markers in the blood to see if the drug reduced heart damage.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a way to reduce heart damage from doxorubicin chemotherapy in breast cancer patients.
