New triple inhaler aims to tame tough asthma

NCT ID NCT07666490

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a triple-combination inhaler (containing an anti-inflammatory, a long-acting bronchodilator, and another bronchodilator) works better than a standard double-combination inhaler for people whose asthma is not well controlled. About 644 adults with asthma will use one of the two inhalers twice daily for 12 months. The main goal is to see if the triple inhaler improves asthma control scores and reduces flare-ups.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Beclometasone, formoterol fumarate, and glycopyrronium bromide (Trimbow) triple inhaler

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that a triple inhaler controls asthma better than a double inhaler for people whose asthma is not well managed.

What could go wrong

This is a phase 4 trial comparing existing drugs, so no major breakthrough is expected. The study is not yet recruiting, and results may show only a small benefit or no difference.
