Aspirin dilemma: to stop or not to stop during brain bleed treatment?

NCT ID NCT07240454

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether people with a chronic subdural hematoma (a slow brain bleed) who are already taking aspirin should continue or stop it while receiving non-surgical care. Researchers will follow 143 participants for 6 months to see if the hematoma comes back or worsens. The goal is to provide better guidance on managing aspirin use in this situation.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Aspirin
What this could lead to
If it works, this could help doctors give clearer guidance on whether to keep taking aspirin during conservative treatment for chronic subdural hematoma, potentially reducing the risk of the hematoma coming back or getting worse.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small trial (143 people) and is not a late-stage study, so results may not apply to everyone. The main risk is that continuing aspirin might increase bleeding, while stopping it could raise the chance of a heart attack or stroke.
