Sniffing lavender may ease biopsy pain and anxiety
NCT ID NCT06581211
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether inhaling lavender aromatherapy oil can reduce anxiety and pain for cancer patients undergoing a bone marrow biopsy. About 45 adults with cancer will be asked to use the oil during the procedure. The goal is to see if this simple, drug-free approach is something patients will actually use and find helpful.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Lavender oil and jojoba oil (placebo) administered via inhalation
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, non-drug way to ease anxiety and pain during bone marrow biopsies for cancer patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study that is currently suspended. It only tests if patients will use aromatherapy, not yet if it truly reduces pain or anxiety.
