New airway implant aims to free trapped air in emphysema patients

Summary
This study tests a permanent implant called the Apreo BREATHE system, which props open airways to release trapped air in the lungs of people with COPD and emphysema. The goal is to improve breathing and quality of life. Up to 250 adults aged 40-84 who still have shortness of breath despite standard treatments will be followed for 3 years to check safety and effectiveness.
