Scientists test natural hormone to help bodies use insulin better

NCT ID NCT02724566

Summary

This early-stage study tested whether a hormone called apelin can improve how the body responds to insulin in people with type 2 diabetes. Nine volunteers with well-controlled diabetes received an infusion of apelin or a placebo while researchers measured their blood sugar. The goal was to gather information to help develop new treatments for insulin resistance, a core problem in diabetes.
