Ear canal gadget may spot anxiety without needles or surgery
NCT ID NCT03954483
First seen Feb 21, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study explores whether a non-invasive device placed in the outer ear can detect brain waves (theta rhythms) linked to anxiety. Currently, measuring these signals requires surgery, but this approach could lead to a simple, wearable diagnostic tool. Healthy volunteers aged 18-40 will receive two different drugs to see if the ear device picks up the expected brain wave changes.
