Blood test may predict clotting trouble during heart surgery

NCT ID NCT07549568

First seen Apr 28, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looks at whether measuring antithrombin levels in the blood before heart surgery can predict if a patient will respond poorly to heparin, a blood thinner used during bypass. About 300 adults having planned heart surgery will give an extra blood sample, and researchers will track how well heparin works. The goal is to find a threshold that helps doctors identify at-risk patients and improve safety.
