Gene-Guided antifungal strategy could shield leukemia patients from deadly mold
NCT ID NCT03828773
First seen Dec 10, 2025 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tests whether using a person's genetic risk for mold infections can guide the use of an antifungal drug (posaconazole) to prevent serious fungal infections in adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) undergoing chemotherapy. About 410 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either standard or genetically tailored prevention, and researchers will track how many develop proven or probable mold infections within 180 days. The goal is to see if a personalized approach can better protect high-risk patients while reducing unnecessary treatment for others.
