Antibiotics may weaken immunity in malnourished babies

NCT ID NCT07615842

First seen May 30, 2026 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looks at whether giving antibiotics to malnourished infants under 1 year old with diarrhea caused by certain viruses or parasites harms their immune system's ability to fight off future infections. Researchers will compare infants who receive usual care (including antibiotics) with those who get only supportive treatment. They will measure immune cell activity, antibody production, and reinfection rates over one year.
