Could antibiotics tame sarcoidosis? new study targets hidden bacteria
NCT ID NCT05291468
First seen Feb 16, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study tests whether a combination of two antibiotics (azithromycin and doxycycline) can reduce bacteria found in the tissue of some sarcoidosis patients and lower inflammation. About 40 adults with biopsy-confirmed sarcoidosis and active inflammation on a PET scan will receive the antibiotics or placebo. The goal is to see if targeting the bacteria improves disease activity and quality of life.
