First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests whether taking an antibiotic called TMP-SMX for 12 months after a kidney transplant (instead of the usual 6 months) can prevent urinary tract infections. About 50 children and young adults who recently had a transplant at UCSF will take either the antibiotic or a placebo daily for 6 months. Researchers will track infections, side effects, and how well participants follow the medication schedule.
