Antibiotic resistance fight: can a website change how doctors prescribe?
NCT ID NCT04028830
First seen Sep 14, 2026 · Last updated Sep 15, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Researchers are testing whether a bundle of actions can reduce antibiotic prescribing by general practitioners. The bundle includes visits from medical representatives who discuss antibiotic resistance, challenge common misconceptions, give feedback on prescribing habits, and demonstrate an online decision-support tool called Antibioclic. The trial compares this full bundle to visits without the website demo and to usual care. About 2,500 general practitioners in France are assigned to one of these groups, and researchers track the total volume of antibiotics they prescribe over 12 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a bundle intervention including visits by medical representatives and a decision-support website called Antibioclic
- What this could lead to
- If the intervention works, it could offer a practical way to reduce unnecessary antibiotic use and slow the rise of resistant infections.
- What could go wrong
- The trial may show that the website and visits do not change prescribing habits. Changing long-standing routines is hard, and the results might not apply outside the French health system.
