Heart rate clues may predict pain during intubation

NCT ID NCT04354311

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study looked at 60 adults having surgery to see if a special heart monitor (called ANI) could predict how they would react when a breathing tube was placed. Researchers gave a mild electric shock to the arm and watched the heart's response, then compared it to the patient's reaction during tube insertion. The goal was to find a better way to measure pain in people who cannot speak during anesthesia.
