Pacemaker lead placement: which guidance method works best?

NCT ID NCT07110922

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study compares two FDA-approved methods for placing a pacemaker lead in the Bachmann bundle, a part of the heart. One method uses only contrast dye and X-ray (angiography), while the other adds an electrocardiogram (ECG). Researchers will enroll 50 adults who already need a pacemaker or defibrillator to see which method works better and takes less time.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors choose the best technique for placing pacemaker leads in the Bachmann bundle, potentially improving heart pacing outcomes.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (50 participants) comparing existing methods, not testing a new treatment. Results may not apply to all patients or lead to major changes in practice.
