Which anesthesia is better for kidney stone removal? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07664384
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares general anesthesia (being fully asleep) with spinal anesthesia (numbing only the lower body) for a type of kidney stone surgery called retrograde intrarenal surgery. Researchers will look at how well the stones are removed, pain levels, and patient satisfaction, especially depending on the size of the stone. The goal is to see if one type of anesthesia works better for certain stone sizes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If it works, this could help doctors choose the best anesthesia for kidney stone surgery based on stone size, improving recovery and comfort.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 80 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It compares existing methods, not a new treatment.
