Could childhood surgery anesthesia affect learning and behavior?

NCT ID NCT06315933

Summary

This study aims to understand if receiving general anesthesia for scoliosis surgery at a young age has any long-term effects on a child's brain development. Researchers will measure intelligence, reasoning, and behavior in 150 children and teens (ages 6-16) who were born with a curved spine (congenital scoliosis). The goal is to gather evidence to help doctors and families make safer decisions about surgery timing and anesthesia use.
