Heart drug may prevent dangerous rhythm after cancer surgery

NCT ID NCT06067438

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tests whether the heart medication amiodarone can prevent atrial fibrillation (a fast, irregular heartbeat) in people recovering from minimally invasive esophageal cancer surgery. Atrial fibrillation is a common complication after this surgery, and there is no standard way to prevent it. About 90 adults having this surgery will be randomly assigned to receive amiodarone or not, and researchers will track who develops the heart rhythm problem within seven days.
