Scientists track early eye disease in 5-Year quest for clues

NCT ID NCT03092492

Summary

This study aimed to better understand how early age-related macular degeneration (AMD) changes over time. Researchers followed about 500 adults aged 55 and older, some with early AMD, some with a specific type called RPD, and some with healthy eyes, for up to 5 years. They regularly performed detailed eye scans and vision tests in the dark to track physical changes in the eye and how they relate to changes in vision, hoping to find markers that could be used in future treatment trials.
